A bus carrying 12 Busemeyer University students on their way to an astronomy class at the BusU observatory crashed into a dumpster around 8 p.m. Monday.
According to University spokesman Jon Smyth, the bus was being driven by 20-year-old BusU student Bugs Meany, who has been arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated, reckless endangerment, risk of injury to a minor and misconduct with a motor vehicle. Meany is on administrative leave while the crash is investigated.
A press release from the Busville Police listed the injured students as Bob Smith, 18, Jane Jones, 19, Renee Descartes, 20, Immanuel Kant, 21, John Stuart Mill, 20, Aristotle Socrates, 18, Richard M. Nixon, 22, Bugs Meany, 20, Looney Tunes, 18, Jenny Jehosaphat, 19, Barbie Doll, 17, and Craig Colorado, 22.
All of the students were taken to Busville Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and all are expected to survive.
According to Smyth, the University’s shuttle bus services are cancelled indefinitely while the school reviews their student driver policy.
University president Stephen Busemeyer has expressed his condolences to the injured students, and says that Busemeyer University takes this incident very seriously.
